Hows these two sets that came up in my mind?

Apply Poisen, Penetrating Shot, Troll Ungeant, Res Sig, Pin Down, Comfort Animal, Charm Animal, Spiteful Spirit {Elite}

Or Perhaps this?

Kindel Arrows, Poisen Shot {elite}, Trol Ungeant, Res Sig, Pin Down, Penetrating Shot, Comofrt Animal, Charm Animal

In this I'm ignoreing my Necro skills which deletes the point of haveing a second proffesion which annoys me a little. Though I could switch my pet for Faithheartedness and something else to add to the health degen on eneies as they come at me. Everytime I do a Sorrow farming Carvers come right at me. They will ignore the group of tanks or whatever that I'm behied so why not make them lose health as they come to me with Pin Down and Posien Arrows, maybe add Faithheartedness. Then when there close Kindel Arrows plus Penetrating Shot to drill in the last bit. Far as points I will add a good group in Expertise but I'm not sure if I'm makeing the same mistakes.

Pets are kinda worthless unless you focus on beastmastery and have some skills for you pet to use. I would drop the pet, or play around with a full beastmastery build if you really like having a pet.

Sorry for not writing an exam work as a reply. You know, sometimes short hints, even if they appear blunt, can be very helpful - but I guess I'll keep the stuff for myself. I don't usually help strangers, don't know why I tried it here.

It not even that you just cna't be so blunt or else people will miss the point of what your trying to say. Then when they miss it you may have a case such as this were what you said was misunderstood then you find yourself in a problem that can be avoided I know I didn't help so the issue is more 75% my fault then anything.

Leon,

It all boils down to these key points, regarding ANY build.

First, ask yourself what your objective is. What kind of build do you want to make? Fun, lazy, complex, wierd, stupid, hardcore, etc.

Next, ask yourself what your expectations of success are. Are you wanting to be able to use this build successfully in PvP and PvE or are you just wanting to play around with it and if it doesn't work all that great, you'll try out something completely different? (meaning, if it works, are you going to keep the skillset for a while?)

The most important key point is to just go out and give it a try. Out in the field, is it fulfilling whatever desire prompted you to initially make it? If you're wanting a kickass PvP build, are you winning with it? Are you winning enough that it makes you feel good about the build? This also gives you the ability to fine tune based on first person experience.

In my opinion, the best way to tell a good PvP build from a bad PvP build is by whether I win more than I lose or vice versa. Both in combat situations AND in the overall game win/loss. Whether I feel 'useful' to my team or not.

.

The most important thing to understand about asking others for help is that when you ask someone else for help about a build, especially here, you're only really going to get one type of answer.. the hardcore build answer.

Your definition of a wierd build is different than my definition of a wierd build, and so on.

Hardcore builds, while I hate being generic, are getting extremely specific these days. You pick a role and everyone uses the same skills pretty much. The reason everyone uses the same skills is because it works and you steamroll the other builds 9 times out of 10.

Boon Protect, Trapper, IWAY, etc.

.

If you've made it this far, heh.

The problem a ranger has is that they're extremely versatile. They have sooooo many options to them, that it's very easy to get overwhelmed and suddenly your skillbar and attributes are spread out over too many different areas.

I don't think what makes a ranger powerful is that they can have multiple focuses all in 8 skills.. but that you can turn them into something COMPLETELY different at any point in time.

IE: Comparing my Mo/E vs my R/N. I can turn my Mo/E into a smiter, nuker, healer, or a tank. My R/N I can turn into an interupter, spiker, pure damage, pressure applier, touchy feely, minion master (with a pet too!), beast master, trapper.

Here's a skillset that I've been having alot of fun with in PvE: Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Penetrating Attack, Troll Unguent, Call of Protection, Comfort Animal, Charm Animal, and Resurrection Signet.
  • Beast Mastery: 7 + 1
  • Expertise: 11 + 1
  • Wilderness Survival: 2 + 1 + 1 (the mask is a mistake, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it.. I'm also well past Droknar's but still in Amnoon armor.. more proof that you don't need hardcore to win )
  • Marksmanship: 11 + 1
I feel that my 'pet' is my weak link on my bar, but I have no energy problems of any kind so I don't feel the need to replace it with something else that may cause an energy problem (I'm short a 15 attribute quest also).

Anyways, enough rambling from me.

Very true I have to keep that in mind. I use my R/N in PvE so I'm not looking to make something that will kill all classes becuase thats not possible for any proffesion theres always someone more skilled. I like my pet he does well with only 5 points in Beast Mastery though I can't very well have points in Markmanship, Wilderness Survival, Expertise, Curse, and Beast Mastery and still do respectable amount of damage. Heres what I'm going to do.

Kindel Arows, Penetrating Attack, Troll Ungeat, Res Sig, Pin Down, Faitheartedness, Comfort Animal, Charm Animal.

Far as points have atleast 10 in Markmanship, Wilderness survival, and Expertise, and a few in Beast Mastery and like a few in Curse.

Pin down will be used to slow enemies down as they come at me or spellcasters, Monks in general and then faithheartedness is to degen thier life as I set up Kindel and Penetrating Attack to finish them off. My animal is a good tanker even in SF belive it or not it's true I think someone said he was Hearty or something. Res Sig I haven't been sueing lately so I could drop it for Spitefull Spirit just to give everyone a small hand. So bascially heres the attribute point set. Oh an can someone tell me where to get the quest that will give the last 15 points i'm missing. I did the one in the Crystal Desert? Please

Markmenship 14 (10+4)
Expertise 12 (10+2)
Wilderness Survival 11 (10+1)
Beast Mastery 6 (5+1)
Curses 5 (5+0)
